NGC4038

Image Information

Quoted From SEDs:

The interacting pair of galaxies, NGC 4038 and 4039, was discovered by William Herschel on February 7, 1785, and first classified as a planetary nebula. His son, John Herschel, cataloged them under separate numbers, h 1052 and h 1053, in his catalog of 1833. From this catalog, he took them over into his General Catalog as GC 2670 and GC 2671 in 1864, from where they found their way in Dreyer's NGC.

This image is a work in progress with data so far acquired. In this image taken at my home observatory there is a reflection in the upper left portion of the image as an artifact of the field flattener which is only present in some targets. The cropped image shows none of this. To date the amount of data used is 9.25 hours RGB and 7 hours luminance as of January 20, 2022. The full cropped image is an enhanced version of that processed image doubled in size and croped.
